Marianne Vos goes down in history as the overall winner of the BeNe Ladies Tour for a second time in a row. She defended her small margin of one second to Katie Archibald in a splendid manner in the final stage in Zelzate (112 kilometres). “The finish was thrilling, which makes the victory even more amazing”, says sports director Eric van den Boom.
It was by no means a done deal that Marianne would take the overall victory. Until today, three riders were within four seconds of the general classification.
Marianne did not take any risks and got involved in the two intermediate sprints which she both won , resulting in three extra seconds each time. “This gave some breathing space, but the difference remained small”, says sports director Eric van den Boom.
The outcome of the final stage was eventually favourable. Despite a couple of struggles, WaowDeals Pro Cycling took control over the stage which ended in a mass sprint. Marta Bastianelli was the fastest while Marianne sprinted to a top ten place, sufficient to take the overall victory.
Marianne also claims the rushes classification. This together with the stage win on Friday makes the BeNe Ladies Tour a successful edition for WaowDeals Pro Cycling.
