An excellent day for Inge van der Heijden in the Grote Prijs Hasselt (Belgium). She had a super start, cleared up a lot of dirty work and was powerful enough to pull a nice fifth place out of the fire. The strongest of the bunch was Ellen Van Loy.
After the superb start, Inge dove into the field as third. She immediately tried to catch up to Ellen Van Loy, who had started a little stronger. When Denise Betsema and Sanne Cant overtook her, Inge was held up by the former who had a mechanical. Inge did not despair and tried to fight back, also with support from Loes Sels and Betsema who was able to reconnect.
"In the second half of the cross, it became tougher and it took a more strategic turn. It started to rain which made me change tires. In that part of the race, I was by myself”, says Inge, who finally took the fifth place (+ 1.11). "I think this was the most possible today. I left with a good feeling. Now recovering for the Zilvermeer cross of Sunday, in Mol."
