Once again, Marianne Vos took the victory flowers, this time in the Night of Woerden. Our rider led pretty much the entire race with four others, including Inge van der Heijden. Marianne distanced herself in the final phase and drew the longer straw again.
“All five riders in the lead were a match for each other. Each one of us tried, but no one managed to get away”, says Marianne. She did manage, however, in the final lap, partly because the others’ handlebars got tangled. “I was able to create a small gap and held on to the finish. This victory gives confidence in light of the European Championship, my first real goal of this cyclo-cross season.”
Inge van der Heijden was also very pleased with her performance. She eventually took a nice fifth place. “I had a very strong start and took off with the first three. We stayed together with five for a long time. I could hold on in each lap, but the last lap was too much. All in all, a fifth place is very nice. My legs felt much better than last weekend.”
