On Sunday, the European championship cyclo-cross in Rosmalen resulted in two silver medals for WaowDeals Pro Cycling. In the morning, Inge van der Heijden was the first one who was successful among the U23. Marianne Vos repeated this achievement in the afternoon in the elite group.
The battle in the elite group was mainly between Annemarie Worst, Marianne Vos, Denise Betsema and Sanne Cant. In the penultimate round, the former pedalled vigorously. Worst subsequently held out impressively. “I soon noticed that it was difficult for me to make a difference today. Towards the end, I tried to save what there was to save. Annemarie Worst was clearly the strongest. It is nice to see so much orange at the very front today”, says Marianne, who will now take a break.
Highest achievable result
In the cross, Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado immediately freed herself from the U23 competition. Behind her, Inge van der Heijden successfully waged a battle for the silver medal. “I had a good start and immediately gained a few positions. In the first round, I was already in second position. Afterwards, I noticed that I could not come closer to Ceylin anymore and I decided to ride my own race. There was no danger from behind", says Inge. “I am really pleased with this silver medal. Today, this was the highest achievable result.”
